About This Game The Second Sino-Japanese War is part of the World War II, but this brutal war in Asia was, for a long time, forgotten by the world. The war in Europe lasted six years, while the war in China lasted eight years. Moreover, Chinese resistance against the invasion had already started since 1931, following the 918 Incident, also known as the Mukden Incident. Decades of war and conflict led to thousands and millions of casualties within China, and the Chinese people persevered through a national crisis of unprecendented suffering. "Company of Heroes: Far East War" is a modification for Company of Heroes, the product of years of work from many skilled modders from various countries and regions, who hold a great sense of historical responsibility. This modification is centered around the 1937-1945 Second Sino-Japanese War, in which players can command a company to regiment-sized unit of the Chinese National Revolutionary Army or the Imperial Japanese Army in battle. The mod pays close attention to detail to the depiction of unit formations, uniforms, weaponry, and equipment of the Chinese and Japanese armies of the period. Everything from rank insignias on an infantryman to the paint used on vehicles are made to be as historically accurate as possible. The mod itself is not bad.But I cannot recommend it in its current state because you'll not be able to finish a game, it always crashes in the middle of it because a tank shot another tank or you selected a building.Missing voices really break the immersion tho.Good luck devs, I'll wait for a fix.. I should say outright that I really wanted to like this game and say something positive about it, because I can tell how much effort the moderators put in to it and how good the models are. It's a beautiful, well crafted game, but it's realism detracts from balanced gameplay, and ultimately makes it almost unplayable. The Japanese can beat the chinese really easily, and that makes the game incredibly unbalanced. It's saving grace is that it can be modded in corsix *if* you make your own attrib file folders, and that it's actually really fun to play for the first 15 minutes until the poor balance kicks in. 8/10 grapics, 9.5/10 realism, 2/10 gameplay. As for the actual gameplay, the game has horrible balance to the point of being almost unplayable and is incredibly slow and tedious. You have to research upgrades just to do the most basic things, like build a machine nest, and in the end no matter what strategy you go with the AI always knows the exact opposite and due to how long it takes to create any kind of challenge to it, you basically lose. Even playing the Japanse who are clearly superior to the chinse sucks, because of just how damn tedious it is and how omnipotent the AI is. You basically end up having to trick the game by spamming certain units to throw off the AI or overpower them early on, which just ends up kind of not being very fun even if you win, which is unlikely. It doesn't really matter how good you are or what strategy you employ, unless you get lucky or are extremely fastidious you will lose. One tiny slip up and you lose literally all your units in a single hit from a mortar or a single machine gun, and yet it takes 30 minutes just to be able to use the most basic functions of the game. It should also be noted that one faction, the Japanese, is just 10 times better than the other, which practically makes it unplayable. Even when you win, it doesn't feel like you did well, it just feels like the creators have no understanding of balance. Robs you of a victory both ways. I tried like crazy to get the game to become playable but to no avail.2/10, the graphics are good though, like an 8/10 if not a 10/10 for the graphics. It's honestly a real shame that such good modders can't fix a few basic gamepay and balance issues. There's a reason the original company of heroes isn't this tedious and ridiculous. It's extremely frustating to see a game really well made in some areas, and completely horrible in others. But it is a free mod and the mod team is not proffesional so I have to get them a pass. I was sad to see it be so horrible, though.EDIT: Through some finagling I was able to get corsix to work on it. If you do want to mod the game yourself for better balance and to expedite things without needing the research or starting off at higher resources etc., then download the Corsix mod editor, go to the gamefile in your company of heroes or company of heroes reluanch folder, and then add the appropriate folders, and say "extract all" to all of the gameplay files so they can be edited in corsix. These file folder names are Archives, Data, DataAttrib, DataSoundHigh, DataSoundLow, Locale, Movie, and OPS. With these file folders, you should be able to get corsix to work after extracting all of the game files (but make sure to make the file folders first or else corsix will crash without a properly named destination folder), and then you can mod the mod..
